The How Low Can You Go Challenge

Well, it's hard work but I've found that I can really lower my grocery bill if I'm diligent. Today I went to FoodLion and spent $86.57 and saved $76.56 in coupons and MVP sales. That's almost a 50% savings! Pretty cool!

I've got two more stores to hit this week. There are some great deals going on and I want to stock up. WinnDixie is having their 10 for $10 sales on frozen veggies and a few other items. I'm also going to hit Publix for my fruits and veggies. I'm going to try to stay until $200 for everything, even my stock up stuff. I bought 5 whole chickens at FoodLion for 67 cents a pound. It's so nice to see my freezer full again! It was getting quite empty, especially since I didn't do a big shopping trip this past week.

I guess you can say that the money saving bug has gotten to me.LOL

Blessings,

Lisa

ETA: I just got back from WinnDixie. I spent $33.61 and saved $21.38! Another almost 50% savings. One more store to go. The kids are clamoring for fresh fruit.LOL

Right now, I'm making Baked Tilapia with rice and steamed broccoli for dinner. I got the tilapia bogo, had the rice and bought the frozen broccoli on sale bogo.

Great job! You are really getting into this in a good way.

For me it is different as we don't have such a wide variety of stores to choose from (no shops in the town we live in, LOL) and have to travel in different directions for different ones. yet I have found a few tricks too such as the co-op produce and bread and getting to different shops when we have to go to those cities for something else anyway. Our food spending is down, Yeah! Now I have to get more creative so as to add in more variety.

There reallly are a variety of ways to save when we really think about it or work at it!

Way to go Lisa. If we lived in a town with as many shopping options I think I'd be more apt to catch this bug. In a way having two grocery stores DOES simplify life. ::snort:: I make the best choices in the stores that I can but they don't seem to have the really wonderful grocery sales here that we are used to from bigger markets....probably because your choice is Walmart/Sams - HEB....oh WAIT there is an albertsons but it is really expensive.

Anyway - it's been fun to follow your adventure.

That so awesome savings! I use to be a much better frugal shopper but now my time is limited so it's mostly Wal-Mart and Publix for me!

Great job, Lisa! We're trying something new, too. The last week of the month we're going to challenge ourselves to use what's in our pantry and freezer and only buy what's absolutely essential.
We cleaned out the pantry and found so much that gets pushed to the back and never used.
So we'll see how creative we can be with 8 bags of pasta! LOL

Thanks for inspiring us all to lower our grocery bills.

Lisa,
Also don't forget that Publix has those coupon booklets at the front of the store. Those are terrific too. There are sometimes more than one to stack with.

Beth

I had fun too!

Thanks everyone! I'm trying and now that we have another expense to pay for, this is a must do. I have quite a few stores to choose from but we also have allergies and such to deal with.

Beth,

Publix has Green Giant veggies on sale 10 for $10 and in the coupons from the newspaper I was able to get them for $.75 each. Pretty neat. I've also been using their milk coupons.

Blessings,

Lisa
